BEER WINE Spirits

The spirit of all things alcohol...

Alcohol includes beer wine & spirits. Alcohol is basically a hydroxyl compound like ethanol or methanol. Fermentation is the process by which an organic substance (usually a sugar) is converted by a single-celled microorganism such as yeast into alcohol. Just as popular with Aussie drinkers as beer and wine, we do love our spirits. Beer wine spirits achieve their alcoholic content differently. A spirit is distilled alcohol. Spirits distillation is the process of heating a fermented liquid, evaporating off the alcohol as vapor, and then condensing it back into liquid form.

In beer wine and spirits, alcohol content is measured differently. Also, different scales are used in different countries to measure the alcohol content. Most countries use alcohol by volume (ABV), also known as the Gay-Lussac system, which expresses alcohol content as a percentage of the total liquid volume of the beverage. A 40% ABV spirit.
